The chakras operate like valves that channel the electrical current of the Universal Life Force into the body.  The traditional Hindu system names seven major chakras.

The positions of the seven chakras coincide approximately with the positions of the glands in the endocrine system.  An emotional occurrence, usually from childhood, can cause one or more of the chakras to become dysfunctional, being too opened or blocked.  Once you have identified which dysfunctions relate to you, you can use various methods to restore those chakra to equilibrium.  Each chakra operates at a unique, optimal frequency which determines its characteristics.  For a complete sense of well-being, remember to think of the chakra system in its entirety and how each one works in harmony with the others.

There are many ways to balance your chakras.   You may create an altar to represent the chakra that you are working on, to include the appropriate color, fragrances, crystals, and other relevant objects.  There are physical exercises which can be performed for each chakra, with the exception of the Third Eye which responds to mental discipline.  Crystals oscillate to a natural healing frequency and may be used for harmonizing and balancing the chakra.  Meditation and guided visualizations can be very beneficial.  Calming the mind automatically calms the body, helping to reduce stress and giving the physical self the opportunity to rebalance.  These are but a few of the ways to bring balance to your chakras.   Try several different ways until you find a favorite that is right for you.
